Exactly. I shot the guns I had, to become a better shooter and have fun. I always shot the single stack .45 I used for Limited 10 pistol competition, the Mossberg 590 which I'd had for years, and the rifle was usually a coin-toss. If I wanted to shoot Heavy Metal, as it existed at the time, I used my Garand. If I wanted to be a little racier, I'd use my AR.
When I shot USPSA Nationals, I shot my M1 Carbine; it's the long gun I most enjoy shooting.
