I have a Thunder Ranch Special and just bought a Monolith Heavyweight. I bought my Thunder Ranch Special per-owned at a gun show and it is easily one of my favorite guns. Everyone who I have let shoot my TRS loves it and it makes everyone seem like a great shot. Yes the gun is extremely tight, but it has also been completely reliable.
I just picked up my Monolith Heavyweight so I have not yet had a chance to shoot it yet. The gun is extremely tight and the finish is flawless. I bought mine through gunbroker.com. There are at least 10 to 15 available at any time.
For me, a high end 1911 is like a luxury watch. A cheaper watch will get the job done, but a high end 1911 just feels special. Of course you expect these watches to be more precise and have nicer finishes. I do not have any experience with Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, or Nighthawk Custom but it would probably be like comparing Rolex, Omega, Breitling.
