I forgot to mention that the center pin, when swung out with what I called the block (for want of a better term) is pushed back to act as an ejector, like the ejector rod of a single action Colt. It worked and was undoubtedly faster than loading a percussion revolver, but it is easy to see why armies were quick to adopt autoloading pistols with their magazines.
