Those were imported by Century Arms around 1994/1995. The story was that they were designed as sniper rifles for East German border guards. However, it would seem that they were never issued or at least never spotted by Western intellgence sources. Century Arms was reportedly conned into believing that the rifles were Steyr SSGs equipped with Carl Zeiss scopes. When they appeared, it was became obvious that they were only 'SSG' in designation, and the Zeiss scopes were made by Zeiss-Juna. The rifles were reportedly made by VEB Ernst Thalmann of Suhl, a manufacturer of rimfire match rifles. The scope is a 4x32. It has two turrets on top: the front is for elevation and the rear is for focus. Windage is adjusted on the scope mount.
