You heard gunshots from a nearby street. You turned in to investigate, because of a prior incident. You observed from a discrete distance. You stayed out of the way. You notified the police. You followed the suspected shooter at a discrete distance, keeping the police advised of the situation.

Scumbag was apprehended by the police, following your directions. Police knew who you were because you relayed your description and your vehicles description to them.

What's not to like? Were you in danger? Quite possibly, but you did your civic duty anyway.
