I guess I don't see it the way Firstfreedom does. The 25-06 is very far superior to the .243 winchester for anything and everything. Big or small if you are talking horsepower. It is, in my opinion and many others, a full big game equal to the .270 win. when loaded in the 120 grain bullet at 3000-3100 f.p.s. range. Great sectional density. And surely reaches with anything. My opinion would be full support, and equal effectiveness, for both the 25-06 and the .270 win. on anything up to and including elk. If it's too big for the .25-06, I doubt the .270 will make any difference in the real world. Anything bigger gets the .300 Win. Mag. We don't have anything bigger than deer or bears in N.Y. Also some cartridges seem easy to make shoot well. I've had great success handloading this round. Good luck with your decision.
