I haven't done any painting, but I did do some light sanding on the stock grips of my CZ82 (to get the worst dings and gouges out), then bead blasted them. They turned out with a pretty nice even matte finish.
The gun is currently wearing a nice pair of walnut Marschall grips, and I'm out of town the next few days, but I'll try to get a pic our two of them if you're interested.
