It depends.
For a hunting gun, which means a T/C Contender .30-30, I'll practice at 75 yards usually while sitting on the ground, arms extended across my knees.
For Bullseye shooting - indoors it's 50 feet. Outdoors, it's 25 and 50 yards.
For the .22 Free Pistol, it's 50 yards.
For non-target pistols, I'm at 25 yards, though I'll take the .44 out to 50yds.
For small guns. like a .25 or a .32. it's three to five yards.
