CTC has a good idea, but the problem with putting your index finger on the trigger guard is that the guard does not provide adequate resistance to inter-limb interaction. If you add a sympathetic squeeze or startle response, especially with a single action gun like the 1911, and that can quickly add up to a negligent discharge.
