There was an agenda, (sorry if I am missing your sarcasm) , and it was to use the gun walking to justify restrictions on assault weapons. As you may recall, the Secretary of State repeated over and over that 90% of the drug/crime weapons recovered in Mexico were of US origin and then truth came out that only a tiny fraction of the guns were of US origin. No pure motives from the top down and I will bet the farm that it was a top down deal. we won't know the truth until a court orders all the documents/emails in question to be produced to congress.
