Hello,
I'm considering getting a .50 CVA Bobcat from a pawnshop. I started another thread that asks how to not get a lemon.

In this thread I was hoping to clear up some of the questions I have about muzzleloading in general. Any input would be appreciated as I am brand new to blackpowder. I'll be using it for Blacktail in WA state and possibly in the future I'll try for Elk.
1) What kind of ammo can you use with a 1:48 twist barrel? ball, maxiball, saboted?
2) How many grains is max for this gun? Can it be used for elk? Is it possible to be effective up to 100 yards? (I would of course fiddle with the right amount of powder, grains, etc. to find an accurate loading). Scopes are illegal for hunting BP in WA. Jacketed bullets are illegal for hunting too. Polymer tips are okay.
3) Any tips on how to not get the primer and/or powder wet? In Washington State the primers have to be exposed to the elements.
4) Any danger that it has one of the barrels that were recalled by CVA?
Thanks for all your help
