I found the answer.

For future reference, the retainer on this version is pressed in. Reminton said you need to get under it and it will wiggle out when rocked and pulled. They use a special cone shaped tool.

I applied oil to lubrivate then I used a bolt with a head that would just slip through the slot and under the retainer. I then put a washer and nut on the other (top) side and gently rocked it and pulled until it slipped out. Total time about 2 minutes.
