In years past I took many big Wisconsin whitetails with .45 Colt handloads from my Ruger Bisley Blackhawk. Shots were all at about 25-30 yards as that was the terrain. I used to shoot bullseye league and was a real good shot. I learned that good shots in field conditions are really very different than shooting at the range. I hit many a stick and tree.

I am older now and my eyesight has really gone downhill. So has the thrill of using a handgun. If I was to go again, I'd be happier with a rifle. A lever action rifle in .44 Mag would be my choice except I have settled on my Grandpa's 30-06 just because I am sentimental.
