when i got my 3 way the old one came off OK as best i remember but if it hadn;t i'd forget the padded vise grips and just use regular vise grips and rather than trying to turn it with my hands i think i'd tap it with a hammer......you may first try heating it with a propane torch before you mess it up with unpadded vise grips.....Dick
