I think the best pistol shooting I have personally witnessed was with a 6" S&W .357 Highway Patrolman (Model 28), 2 1/2" group at 100 yards off a rest.

I used to fire my 3" barrel Chiefs Special at 100 on silhouette targets, shooting standing, two hand hold. Most of the time I got all the hits in the target, but I couldn't call it a group.
