I have a gunsmith buddy who carrys a J Frame in the back pocket of his jeans all the time around the shop or property.
I have another buddy who carries a 2-3/4" Speed Six in this manner. It works for them.
If you are bumming around in the yard or shop, or going for a walk this method of carry is probably OK.
I think I would skip setting on the handgun on hard surfaces, like wooden chairs however.
