The boresize DDs are subject to "sporting purposes" - basically, you need to write a letter with a complete description of the cartridge and firearm (drawings, etc.) to the BATFE and ask them.

This is why shotguns over .410ga are legal - they're all over .50" but used for "sporting purposes".
