OP - the only thing that you can do is take it to a gunsmith and have him shorten the buttstock or return the gun.
The suggestion wasn't that the forearm was too long, it was to move the hand back on the forearm to hold the gun. I too am 5"7" and I've never owned a gun that was too long for me. Unless the OP has very, very short arms, he shouldn't have a problem holding this gun to shoot it. It's possible that his shooting form isn't correct and he's holding the gun in an awkward manner. I shoot competition rifle, and shotgun and the LOP on most guns will easily fit a person of his (or my) stature. Most guns require fitting to lengthen LOP on adult men when the LOP isn't correct.
