You can try a different mag catch.
Have you tried to see if it locks in with no issues with the upper off the lower?
If the mag locks in fine with the upper off of the lower, its not guaranteed that it isn't the catch, but makes it much less likely.
If you use a new magazine, you may be able to see marks where the binding is happening.
