Clark cartridge nomenclature verification. If it fits, shoot it. If it didn't break....shoot it again.

Clark's testing is a lot more scientific than that. Have learned from him.

Seriously tho.....some of the older guns had through bored cylinders with no limiting step in the chamber. Thus, many guns designed for .38S&W will chamber and fire .38 special and .357mag. Very unsafe. Same problem may be encountered in other older guns of different calibers and an assortment of cartridge lengths.

Soooo....though your dies will handle multiple lengths of cases, be sure you are loading the proper cartridge and load for your gun. And don't use loading data for one length case in one of different length.
