Bought a Glock, learned to use my index finger for the mag release - problem solved.

With one of the common stances, the gun would be more or less in front of the center of the body, so the direction of ejection isn't much of a problem as well.

Don't want to be a know-it-all, but for me it works (and saved me a lot of money since the only real "ambi" pistol available was a S&W M&P which would have cost me more than double...)
