I have a Leupold VX III 2-7 on my marlin .44 and a VXII 2-7 on my XT-22. The VX III would be slightly above your price at 300-330 depending on where you are and the VX II I paid about 215. Both come in 3-9 also and I have been very impressed with them.

EDIT: I see a lot of recommendations for redfield. I think I read somewhere that redfield is made by Leupold? I have yet to use a Redfield but I am building an AR currently and was considering one of those also.
