All I ever got from the USN was .45 on a plain old 1911a.

I did qualify with it, rather than just shoot a few rounds like many sailors. For guys like me (electronics technician) small arms training wasn't "important" so you had to befriend the gunners mates.

Of course, if you had a brain in your head in the military you learned to befriend a lot of people, the cooks, the dispersing clerk, etc. there were all manner of people you wanted as your friend.
