I've seen at least a dozen 8 pointers this year...maybe more..it's hard to recognize the ones you have already seen. I have lots of legal deer running right now and I have seen several pic's on the cameras of them butting heads already. The problem is I see a lot of full bodied bucks with little 8 point racks that probably won't ever be any bigger...and are passing on their genes. I would love to see some of the little 8 pointers thinned out, but someone in an office elsewhere knows better.
I think shooting bucks based on the number of points they have and not the width of their spread would stabilize the situation more.
In all their wisdom, we also have someone sitting in an office in Jasper
Texas that makes the decisions about how many does should be shot off of what property. I recommended 4 does be taken off of one property I manage, and they sent me 5 tags. I recommended 2 does be removed off on another property that is overrun with does and they issued 1 tag.
No rhyme or reason to the laws here and land owners and managers aren't even consulted.
