The 3.5's don't make that much of a difference. I have shot them many times in an 870. Remington factored that in. I will try to say this tactfully but the 887 was an answer to an non-existent problem and it was not well thought out.
You would be better off to go with an 870 Express 3.5 or 3. I don't know how they do it, but my 3.5 Express kicked less than a Benelli SBE I with 3.5's. I didn't even notice it when duck hunting.
If you want a Remington pump, go with the 870.
