I had a pair of those cheap-o Peltor muffs and found them to be total trash. They crackled terribly and had a disorienting "compression suck" effect when they attenuated shots. You can't leave batteries in them and they break quickly and easily. They are the cheapest electronic muffs on the market for a reason.

I like these a lot better. They sound ok and they are still working after a whole summer's worth of hard use:
