The Ranch Rifle is a variant of the current generation Ruger Mini 14. It has a conventional fixed wood or composite stock, a tapered 18" barrel, and a protected blade front sight. The serial # begins with 581 or 582, if I remember correctly.

What Ruger lists as the Tactical has a 16" tapered barrel threaded 1/2x28 with a flash suppressor. There has been also the NRA edition Mini 14 with a 16" tapered unthreaded barrel, a winged front sight, and a Hogue black rubber stock.
Could it be that ruger used the range rifle receivers to manufacture the tactical a?

P.S. all bourbon IS whiskey. (Not all whiskey is bourbon). Someone had to say it!
