I have a .357 Magnum Ruger Blackhawk that I carry in the woods using a Triple K western style holster, hung on this:

That 6.5" barrel is probably too long for holding across the chest, but it hangs nicely in this setup. Plus it holds ten extra cartridges, which is nice.
