The 700 is a very strong and reliable action. A synthetic stock is practical if you anticipate hunting often in wet weather. I think the SPS is a fairly recent offering. Among used models, the Model 700 ADL is common on dealer shelves. It was made with wood and synthetic stocks. I had a synthetic one in 7 mil mag which was very sturdy and accurate. Liking wood, I have also always liked the Model 700 BDL, which is at the top of the fancy scale for factory 700s. They have good wood and very nice metal fitting and finish, a gun you can take pride in, and there are also many of these in the used ranks.
