For most of us money is an issue. I have gone the route of trying to make one gun do multiple things. I think that is a good way to start. Over time, as money allows, I have moved to one gun for a specific task. I have been much happier with results as I have specialized my gun inventory. I have mostly kept the multiple tool guns I had and configured them for the task they do the best or sometimes loan them to people in my shooting club that are short on guns.

Seams like once we the people give what, at the time, seams like a reasonable inch and "they" take the unreasonable mile we can only get that mile back one inch at a time.
