Whether corncob or walnut, once it is taking about twice as long to clean the brass, I pitch it. Lots of folks do it once a year, but how often really depends on how many cases you clean in a season, of course, and how thoroughly you clean them? Also, if you live in an area where a lot of sandy grit gets on your cases, you will likely change it more often, or at least skim the top media off and pitch the bottom half inch where the grit tends to settle. That's to keep it from getting into cases and scratching up your dies.
