What caliber?
.32 Police Positive (New Police) same as .32 S&W Long.
.38 Police Positive (New Police) same as .38 S&W.
.38 Colt Special same as .38 Special (not for +P).

In good condition it is safe to fire with CORRECT "modern ammunition" which is not loaded any heavier than it ever was.
