"...Unless you are into annealing, it isn't worth the bother..." Even if you are it's not worth the bother. The .308 is 1/2" shorter, It takes many passes through more than one die to convert 'em.
.308 brass isn't in the least bit difficult to find, cheap. 100 pieces of Remington .308 runs $29.99 at Midway. 700 pieces, with no shipping charges, runs $193.99.
Sell the '06 brass or wait until October and buy another M-1 from the CMP. Reloading makes the endless search for ammo go away and gives you better ammo.
