More complex: I suspect that the OP is referring to an NFA trust, and it's used for NFA items (suppressors, fully automatic firearms, etc.). As I understand it, an individual wishing to possess and use NFA items has to be fingerprinted, have his application signed off on by the Chief LEO in his area, and a few other hoops. The NFA trust allows the trustees to possess and use the NFA item(s) in the trust without having to jump through all the same hoops. (Ever try to fingerprint a trust? )
