I've refinished several guns with a black oxide finish. It comes out black rather than dark blue. I used my own mix using Ammonium Nitrate from the local feed and seed. If your gun is polished, white metal and clean you'll get a deep black glossy finish. The process is fast and easy.
Blueing takes a lot more steps and can be tricky.
