It depends entirely on the modification and the handgun that is modified. In most of the Pistol Courses I have taken, most of the heavily modified 1911s in attendance have failed repeatedly. While the 1911s that were relatively unmodified kept on ticking no matter what.

FWIW, I rarely saw any Glocks, Sigs, or H&Ks fail though.
