That's the part I don't understand. Schumer's bill is quite unpalatable as it is; there seems to be general agreement that, as written, it stands little chance of passing the Senate and none of passing the House. Why on earth Mr. Gottlieb thought it was a good idea to help draft something that might pass unless it's loaded with "unpalatable" amendments... escapes me. Why not load up a
worse bill with those amendments, in that case?
I get that Manchin and Toomey have something to gain, politically, in this; to some extent, everyone in Congress who has any number of antigun constituents would benefit from passing something they can point to. But what's in it for Mr. Gottlieb, the SAF, and gun owners in general?
Nothing good that I can see.
