When you start using the full features of the x-die in subsequent reloadings, the cases will grow a few thousandths and stop. Then you don't have to trim anymore. Still a good idea to check them occasionally.
The x-die can be used as a standard full length sizing die (no use of the mandrel), a neck sizing die adjusted differently and as full function the mandrel adjusted properly a full length sizing die that prevents the case from expanding in length.
It works on my .223 just fine.
