Never liked the idea of a .22 LR AR. I understand the customization and the ease/availability of better triggers, but the AR isn't built for .22's, it's not the best platform for rimfire. If you're doing competitions and matches, okay, sure, the AR is probably the best way to go, but for just a nice semi auto plinker or a .22 for "bad times", get a Ruger 10/22 or Charger w/ a brace. Plenty of customization and aftermarket parts for a hugely popular .22 rifle.

Besides not being designed for it, being way too big for the cartridge, the big issue I have is the magazines. They're the same size as an AR mag and there are no smaller 10 round mags that you can easily carry like the 10/22's rotary mag or the Mossberg Plinkster mag.

The only thing the .22 AR has going for it is that they're the only .22's I know of that you can mount a bayonet onto without much effort.
