Chrome is desirable in a defensive carbine, because it aids in reliability, longevity, cleaning, and it is more resistant to corrosion. It's only drawback is that they can at times decrease accuracy slightly, but even this is exaggerated by many and varies from barrel to barrel depending on how well it was done.

1/8 and 1/7 will allow you to shoot higher grain bullets (70gr+) with better accuracy.
