I myself like the idea of reminding them that by disarming customers, they are assuming at least partial responsibility for the safety of those customers, and that your letter is putting them on notice of same. (Send it registered/return receipt.) Then you mention that if any criminal attack should occur in their business, you will forward your letter to any attnorneys representing any victims or estates of victims who may have been injured or killed in said attack.

In short, threaten them, politely.
