Savage Arms still builds a very accurate rifle for affordable price. This would likely be my first choice for bolt action.

Howa makes bargain priced rifles that are tough.

Remington has something for everyone regarding style, options, and pricing. Their polymer tipped 95 grain ammo is the next best thing to hand loaded cartridges.

Tikka makes a very smooth action yet pricing is quite affordable.

Browning has always appealed to the guys who prefer to go deluxe. Browning rifles are certainly attractive and worthy of consideration.

In used rifles, Parker Hale is usually a very good bargain.

My .243 is a slide action by Remington. Some would say it is a brush gun. But this rifle has seen a lot of action on the open prairies of Wyoming and South Dakota. Accuracy is easily on par with the very best of bolt actions. I'm not sure why this action type is largely ignored by western hunters.

Good shooting to you.
