That depends on (a) what the misdemeanor was; (b) what the maximum sentence was for that misdemeanor (not what he got, but the maximum he could have gotten); (c) what state it was; and (d) who says he can't purchase a firearm, the BATFE, or the state.
He needs to consult an attorney.
