Yep. Unfortunately, so many "U.S." companies are just a shell of their former selves and now just use their brand to launder Chinese-made products back into the U.S. I work for such a company and hardly a day goes by that we don't see more and more of our job functions going overseas because the Chinese/Taiwanese "Can do it better" ("better" meaning cheaply).

It goes like this: Someone goes to WallyWorld or some other place and wants to pay the dirt-cheapest price for whatever it is they're looking to buy. In order to meet the lowest price points, manufacturers look overseas for cheap, semi-skilled labor to make their stuff. The companies squeeze every last penny from every deal with the overseas manufacturers to get the lowest price, while the overseas manufacturers in turn try to cut every corner possible to get those pennies back. In the end, you get flaming laptop batteries, melamine in dog food, lead paint on toys, etc.

You get what you pay for - things are cheap for a reason.
