For the purposes you describe, I think the 627 would suit your needs better. Steel N-Frames soak up enough recoil to make .357 Magnums downright pleasant (my old M28 is an absolute peach). If you're just using the gun for a range toy and HD, weight isn't a factor so the 327's scandium frame loses its advantage and actually becomes a drawback (less weight=more recoil).
