I read that some time ago. It doesn't sound right to me. With the number Colts being used and for the length of time they have been on the civilian market, almost fifty years. You would hear about a 20% fail rate.

Maybe they used hot reloads?? With NATO spec ammo a bolt should live 15K rounds or more.
