There are two competing standards... The Armalite and DPMS.
DPMS has two variations, high rail and low rail. This affects handguard selection more than anything else. Most use the low rail, as it is compatible with AR15 rails.
In theory, a DPMS compliant lower should fit any DPMS upper... But sometimes that is not the case.
Between aero and diamondback... Aero is probably better quality.
