Region also matters. About a year ago I picked one up in Utah is about 98% condition for $425 plus tax. About 8 months later I saw one at a gunshow in about 90-95% condition for $375 (and I probably could've talked him down, but I already had one) private party. I don't think they're as popular in Utah as the .44 mag, since .45 colt is somewhat of a sleeper cartridge.
