Late word is that after the sale of Remington, the new owners are re-establishing the quality of the 870.

Remington is now selling a POLICE version of the Magnum Marine.
Just what the difference is between the police and commercial Magnum Marine is, I don't know.

It comes down to what you think and on the features like the location of the safety.
The 870 is a forged steel gun and the Mossberg is a cast aluminum receiver gun.
The 870 will last a lot longer if you are an extremely high round count shooter.
