I have a PT145 and an old P85 MKII. The Ruger will be heavier and the slide mounted safety is a bit awkward when you're in a hurry. I didn't like the Ruger at first, but Hogue grips transformed it... WAY better than the hard plastic OE grips. Both of my pistols have proven reliable, though the Ruger has way more rounds down the pipe because of it's age and ammo cost.
The effectiveness of either cartridge is more dependant on your ability to hit the target than anything else, but given the option I'd choose the .45.
